Privacy Policy

This policy covers cradleandhearth.com. It describes what we collect, why we collect it, and how to get it removed. We have tried to write it in plain terms rather than in the language of a policy nobody reads.

What we collect

Your email address, if you give it to us

If you sign up to the newsletter, or ask us to send you your style profile, we store the address you typed and a note of which page you signed up from. That is all. We do not buy email lists and we do not sell or rent yours.

Your quiz answers

Your answers to the style quiz stay in your browser and in the link to your result. They are stored on our servers only if you give us your email address.

If you ask us to email your plan, we store your answers with your email address and first name: the styles you picked, the rooms you named, what you told us about your household (children, pets, mobility), the pieces you are keeping, your budget band, your timeline and your home profile answers. We use them to send your plan and the emails that follow it, and to design rooms that suit you.

We also record anonymous quiz events in our analytics, such as which answers were chosen, with no name or email address attached. We use them to improve the quiz.

We count the searches made on the site, as the search words and the day only, with nothing that identifies who searched. Only searches made of words from our own catalogue are counted, and the most common ones are suggested to other shoppers.

A photo of your room, if you send one

If you send us a photo of your room so we can design it, we store the photo and the design we make from it, linked to your email address. We use them only to design your room and send it to you. Photos that show a person are not used.

Messages you send us

If you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address and message so we can reply.

Basic analytics

We use privacy-friendly page analytics to see which pages are read. If we have enabled a tag manager on the site, it is disclosed in your cookie settings. We do not run advertising trackers on this site.

Order details, if you buy something

If you place an order, we collect what is needed to fulfil it: your name, delivery and billing address, email address, phone number, and the items and amounts on the order. The phone number is not optional for furniture: freight carriers call to arrange a delivery appointment, and an order without one cannot be delivered.

We never see or store your full card number. Payment details go directly to our payment processor, which is certified to handle them. What comes back to us is confirmation that the payment succeeded, plus the last four digits and card type so we can identify the transaction if you contact us about it.

What we do not collect

We do not ask for or store full payment card numbers, or dates of birth. We do not ask for a delivery address, billing address or phone number unless you are placing an order. The quiz does not require an account, and neither does browsing the site.

Why we are allowed to hold it

For the newsletter, the basis is your consent, given when you submitted the form. For replies to your messages, and for the aggregate quiz analysis that lets us run and improve the site, the basis is our legitimate interest in operating it.

How long we keep it

Newsletter addresses, and quiz answers stored with an email address, are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Contact messages are kept while we deal with them and for a reasonable period afterwards.

Room photos, and the designs we make from them, are deleted 90 days after you send the photo. A photo we hold for you to confirm or report, including one we think shows a person, is deleted after 7 days if you do not.

Order records are kept for as long as tax, accounting and consumer-protection law requires us to keep them, which is longer than we would otherwise choose. A deletion request cannot remove a record we are legally required to retain, and we will say so plainly rather than confirm a deletion we did not make.

Who else sees it

We use third-party services to run the site: a hosting provider, a database provider, an email delivery provider, and an email marketing platform. If you ask us to email your plan, the email marketing platform receives your email address, first name and a summary of your answers (the room we recommended, the rooms you named, your budget band, timeline and project scope) so it can send you the emails that follow. They process data on our behalf and under contract. We do not share your details with anyone else for their own marketing.

If you send a photo of your room, it is processed by AI image services that design the room from it and check the result, on our behalf and only for that purpose.

If you place an order, two more are involved by necessity. Our payment processor receives your payment and billing details in order to take the payment and to run fraud checks. The warehouse and freight carrier shipping your items receive your name, delivery address and phone number, because they cannot deliver furniture without them.

Your rights

Global Privacy Control. If your browser or an extension sends a Global Privacy Control signal, this site does not load its analytics tag at all. There is nothing to switch on and no banner to dismiss: the check runs before the tag would load, and it fails closed, so the tag stays off if the check cannot run. Under California law a GPC signal is treated as a binding opt-out, and we honour it whether or not you live there.

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to object to processing or to complain to a regulator.

Changes

If we change what we collect, we will change this page and update the date at the top of it.
