An art deco terrace is symmetrical about its own center line: pale limestone with a black stone border, an ivory house with a tall gridded black door between two fluted pilasters, and clipped hedges in matched pairs on each side. A round marble dining table on a black pedestal stands on the center line with two acacia chairs strapped in tan leather facing each other across it, a black umbrella centered over them, and a leather strapped chaise along the balustrade at the terrace's edge facing the lawn. Cushions in a cream and black geometric print, a black lacquer tray with a cocktail shaker and two coupes, and a pair of black urns holding clipped box on each side of the door.

Pale limestone paving extends outward from the ivory facade, framed by a crisp border of black stone that establishes the architectural balance of this terrace. The entire space aligns along a clear central axis, beginning at the tall gridded black door between classical fluted pilasters and continuing through the clipped hedges to the open lawn beyond. By committing to this symmetry, the terrace creates a serene outdoor room where every piece shares a deliberate relationship with the architecture. The warm afternoon light softens the contrast between deep black accents and light stone, allowing natural materials like tan leather and solid acacia wood to bridge the distance between structured masonry and the green garden hedge.

The Anchor of Woven Leather and Warm Wood

The dining chairs serve as the anchor for the entire arrangement, introducing rich texture and warm color to the stone floor. Built with solid acacia frames and woven tan leather strapping across the back and seat, these seats reference the geometric elegance of classic twentieth-century design. The warm brown tone of the leather balances the cooler pale limestone and the black metal finishes across the terrace.

Facing each other across the table, the chairs create an intimate setting for conversation and dining. The woven construction permits air to circulate freely during warm afternoons while providing resilient, flexible support. By pairing natural hide with dark timber, the seating adds an organic quality that enriches the crisp geometry of the surrounding courtyard.

Concentric Geometry on the Center Line

The dining space takes form through three concentric circular elements arranged directly along the central axis of the terrace:

  • A low-profile round black outdoor rug grounds the setting, defining the dining boundary against the pale limestone slabs and echoing the dark perimeter border of the terrace.
  • A round white marble dining table on a black pedestal base rests directly upon the rug, providing a cool, polished surface that reflects the open sky and catches the light.
  • A wide black round patio umbrella stands centered overhead, shading the tabletop and establishing a tall vertical presence that mirrors the scale of the ivory pilasters behind it.

Repeating the circular form at the floor, the tabletop, and the canopy establishes an orderly rhythm. The round surfaces ease movement around the center line, preserving open sightlines from the gridded door out toward the lawn and balustrade. The marble top provides a sturdy, substantial surface for entertaining, balanced by the heavy black pedestal that anchors the table firmly in place.

Framing the Edge with Lounging and Greenery

Along the stone balustrade overlooking the lawn, a low chaise lounge echoes the materials of the dining chairs. Its matching tan leather straps and dark wood silhouette invite quiet afternoons of reading in the sun. Positioned perpendicular to the main dining group, the chaise offers a clear view across the property while defining the outer edge of the living space. Cream and black geometric cushions add supportive softness and reinforce the graphic motifs of the terrace doors.

Black metal rectangular planter boxes define the side perimeters, flanking the seating zone and echoing the low profile of the balustrade. Filled with structured foliage, these planters work alongside the pair of tall black urns by the entryway to pull living green leaves onto the stone paving. A black lacquer tray holding a cocktail shaker and two coupe glasses sits within reach on the table, completing an outdoor living space made for measured conversation and lingering evenings.
