Sand-colored clay plaster and a bath cast into the same plaster make a room that is one continuous warm surface, and the furniture is timber because timber is the only material that belongs in it. The vanity is a fluted walnut box, floating, with a white top and a black marble basin standing on it, and the basin is deliberately the darkest object in the room: it reads as stone, and it is where the wet is. The wall cabinet is an arched glass-fronted cabinet in natural wood, hung with its door standing open, because a biophilic bathroom keeps its towels and its plants in view and the arch is a shape the plants grow into. The mirror is an irregular organic outline in natural wood, a shape that reads as grown, hung on the plaster above the basin. Ferns on the sill and one large-leaved plant in the corner are the actual point of the room; the furniture is there to give them a place to stand.

Sand-colored clay plaster and a soaking tub cast into that very same plaster envelope this bathroom in one continuous, tactile surface. The room holds heat and ambient moisture like a sun-warmed stone terrace. In an interior defined by mineral plaster, timber is the natural material to furnish the space, bringing organic grain and forest warmth into the domestic bath. Cradle & Hearth builds this coordinated room set around the floating vanity, pairing it with an arched storage cabinet and an organically sculpted mirror. Together, these pieces establish a rich sensory environment where running water, carved wood, and thriving plant life interact every day.

The Weight and Texture of the Vanity

The vanity serves as the foundation for the entire room, anchored to the plaster wall so it floats gracefully above the floor. Its exterior features rich walnut timber milled into crisp vertical flutes. These rhythmic ridges catch the directional light, producing soft linear shadows that accentuate the three-dimensional depth of the wood. A flat white countertop caps the walnut structure, providing a luminous, clean plane that sets off the fixtures above.

Resting on this white surface is a round vessel basin carved from black marble, positioned intentionally as the darkest focal point in the room. This basin reads as ancient, dense stone. It marks the place where water gathers, celebrating the presence of liquid against mineral. When water flows across the marble, the dark stone deepens in color, developing a glossy luster that highlights its subtle white veining. The floating mount keeps sightlines open across the floor tiles, preserving the expansive feeling of the plaster surround while supplying generous enclosed drawer storage for daily bath essentials.

Elevated Storage and Visible Greenery

Mounted to the plaster wall beside the wash station, the natural wood wall cabinet introduces vertical storage and architectural elegance. Its frame features four glass-panel doors beneath a gentle curved arch. In a biophilic bathroom, storage remains in plain view, celebrating everyday utility through visible stacks of woven cotton towels, amber glass bottles, and indoor botanical cuttings.

The cabinet earns its position through several distinct design advantages:

  • The arched top creates a graceful frame that leafy vines and potted ferns can grow directly into over time.
  • Glass door panels protect bath textiles from direct moisture while keeping their warm, soft textures visible throughout the room.
  • Four distinct storage compartments organize linens, grooming supplies, and plant care tools across dedicated shelving.
  • The natural wood finish offers a lighter, golden complement to the deep walnut of the vanity, expanding the warmth of the room's timber palette.

Hanging the cabinet with its doors resting open invites humidity to circulate around the interior shelves, encouraging moisture-loving plants to spill out into the open air of the room.

Organic Contours and Living Foliage

Above the black marble sink, the wall mirror completes the triad with a frame of solid natural wood shaped into an irregular, flowing silhouette. Its outline reads as a living, grown form, evoking river rocks, tree burls, and wind-sculpted shorelines. Hung directly against the textured clay plaster, these soft, undulating curves counterbalance the straight architectural planes of the vanity and floor. The mirror surface captures daylight streaming from the window, reflecting the plaster walls and multiplying the green foliage scattered throughout the space.

Living plants are the true purpose of this room, and the timber furniture exists to give them an ideal place to flourish. Delicate ferns thrive along the window sill, drinking in the diffused daylight and ambient steam from the tub. In the corner, a large-leaved tropical plant rises tall, its broad green foliage providing rich color contrast against the sandy plaster. The humid air of the bath sustains these botanicals, while the natural timber, smooth stone, and clay surfaces create a balanced sanctuary dedicated to daily rejuvenation.
