Terracotta walls and patterned encaustic tile are doing most of the work, so the furniture can be warm and plain and still look right. The vanity is teak in a chevron of fluting, floating, with a white top and a fluted glass basin standing on it, and the teak is the reason it works here: it is the same warm brown as the rattan and the baskets, so the piece reads as handmade. The corner cabinet is the bohemian move. A tall, narrow teak cabinet with slatted doors, standing in the far corner, is storage that looks like it was found and not bought, and it uses the one part of a small bathroom nothing else can. The mirror above the vanity is a round in woven rattan, the one object in the room that is plainly handmade, and it sits with the terracotta the way a black metal one would not. Everything else is plants and textiles, layered until nothing is empty.

A saturated, dark bathroom demands materials with distinct presence and deep warmth. In this room, rich terracotta plaster and patterned encaustic floor tiles create a grounding, earthen atmosphere. With the walls and floor supplying intense color and pattern, the furnishings provide calm balance through warm timber and tactile surfaces. Cradle & Hearth builds this room around a cohesive trio: a floating teak vanity, a matching vertical corner cabinet, and a round rattan mirror. These three pieces share a honey-brown finish and an artisanal spirit, working together as a complete interior set.

The Anchor Vanity

The room centers on the floating teak vanity. Its honeyed wood tone matches the color of raw rattan and natural basket weave, giving the entire piece the feel of handmade carpentry. Double doors feature a chevron pattern of carved fluting, casting soft ridges of light and shadow across the front face. Suspending the cabinet above the floor keeps the patterned encaustic tile visible across the full width of the room, creating an expansive feeling across the lower floorboards.

A clean white countertop rests across the teak base, establishing a bright horizontal plane that contrasts with the deep wall color. At the center of this counter sits a fluted glass vessel sink. The clear fluted glass catches ambient light and reflects it back into the moody room, adding an airy brightness to the heavy stone and wood surfaces. Together, the carved teak, white counter, and glass basin establish an anchor that holds the entire room in balance.

Vertical Storage in the Far Corner

Storage in a small room requires careful spatial choices. Standing in the far corner, the tall, narrow teak cabinet claims the wedge of space where two walls meet. Slatted double doors mirror the fluted lines of the central vanity while establishing their own distinct texture. The tall profile draws the eye upward, celebrating the vertical reach of the room.

Because this storage piece rests on the floor with simple square feet, it carries the quiet presence of a vintage find gathered from an artisan workshop. Behind the slatted doors, deep shelving provides concealed organization for fresh towels, bath salts, and daily grooming supplies. Placing this substantial storage unit in the corner balances the visual weight of the floating vanity, distributing wood tones evenly across the perimeter.

Texture and Reflection Above the Counter

Above the vanity, the round mirror introduces gentle geometry to a room defined by vertical lines and sharp tile borders. The frame consists of woven rattan in an antique brown finish, echoing the clay warmth of the terracotta walls. The circular form softens the rectangular lines of the vanity below and the tile grid underneath.

The woven fibers of the frame create tactile depth against the matte plaster. The woven rattan reinforces the earthy craft of the surrounding architecture. The reflective glass within centers the vanity station, catching the glow of accent lighting and bouncing warm terracotta tones back across the interior.

Layering the Finished Environment

With the vanity, corner cabinet, and mirror establishing the wooden core of the room, the remaining space welcomes rich, personal layering:

  • Trailing pothos and ferns placed on the upper corner cabinet, bringing vivid green foliage against the warm red plaster.
  • Thick woven cotton hand towels rolled and stacked on open surfaces to add soft ivory texture.
  • Amber glass apothecary jars and glazed ceramic soap dishes arranged across the white vanity counter to catch the light.
  • Woven grass baskets set near the base of the vanity to hold extra washcloths and brushes.

These layered textiles and botanical accents settle naturally against the teak and rattan framework. The three core pieces give the room its structural foundation, allowing the tiles, plaster, and everyday accessories to unite in a warm, welcoming retreat.
