Tadelakt plaster on every wall and a bath sunk into the same plaster make a room with nothing to hide behind, and the two pieces of furniture are chosen for what they leave out. The vanity is a plain walnut slab with a white marble basin standing on it, no door detail, no fluting, no handle worth noticing, so the eye goes to the grain of the timber and the veining of the stone. The corner cabinet is teak with slatted doors, tall and narrow, standing in the far corner where it takes the least of the room; its surface will mark with water and that is expected. The mirror is a round in dark timber, hung on the plaster with the rest of the wall left bare, because wabi-sabi is the one style where an empty wall is a finished wall. A single repaired bowl on the counter and one bare branch on the floor are the whole of the decoration.

Tadelakt plaster surrounds this bathroom in a continuous, tactile skin, extending down into the sunken bath to create an interior with absolute physical presence. The room exists as a mid-toned, neutral, saturated environment where natural materials supply the visual depth. The space organizes itself around three furniture pieces designed to work as a single installation: a floating walnut vanity, a tall teak corner cabinet, and a round dark timber mirror. Each piece carries a distinct silhouette, allowing the warmth of natural wood and honed stone to anchor the smooth mineral backdrop. This is a room that celebrates material integrity, quiet balance, and the calm permanence of honest textures.
The Vanity as the Structural Anchor
The room centers on the floating walnut vanity, which establishes the primary horizontal axis of the space. Built from a thick slab of walnut, the piece displays the deep, swirling grain and warm amber tones of the timber across a broad, flush front plane. Its floating mount keeps the floor below open, letting the continuous line of tadelakt plaster flow freely across the room. Atop the wooden counter sits a white marble vessel basin. The pale stone with its soft, organic veining provides a crisp focal point against the rich wood base. By keeping the vanity faces flat and quiet, the design directs the eye straight to the relationship between the honed marble and the walnut grain. The counter offers generous resting room for daily grooming articles, combining functional storage with clean, grounded proportion.
Vertical Storage and the Beauty of Patina
In the far corner stands the tall, narrow teak cabinet, which introduces vertical balance to the low, grounded lines of the bath and vanity. Slatted double doors run the length of its front, casting fine linear shadows that change with the shifting light of the day. Teak is a wood dense with natural oils, making it well suited to an environment rich in steam and splashing water. This cabinet is designed to live with the moisture of the room. Over time, contact with water drops will mark the raw wood, deepening its color and creating an authentic patina that records the passage of time. By occupying the corner, the piece preserves open square footage in the center of the bathroom while providing deep, enclosed storage for rolled towels and bath essentials.
Geometric Balance and Intentional Space
Above the vanity hangs the round dark timber mirror, bringing a softening circular shape to the rectangular forms of the cabinetry and bath. The dark frame echoes the deep tones of the walnut below, pulling the eye upward and reflecting light back into the mid-toned room. The mirror hangs alone on the expansive plaster wall, allowing the broad expanse of plaster around it to breathe. In this aesthetic, bare space serves as an active, finished element. The subtle mottling and hand-troweled character of the plaster wall carry enough visual weight to stand complete on their own. Restraint defines the finishing accessories as well: a single repaired ceramic bowl rests on the timber vanity top, and one sculptural bare branch rises from the floor beside the bath, completing the room through pure organic form.
The Logic of the Set
The success of this bathroom relies on a deliberate balance of proportions, textures, and functions across the entire collection.
- The floating walnut vanity anchors the primary wall, establishing a horizontal datum and offering tactile material richness right at hand level.
- The tall teak corner cabinet expands vertical storage, providing enclosed utility space in a compact footprint and introducing rhythmic shadow through its slatted facade.
- The round timber mirror breaks the linear geometry of the room, framing daily routines and bouncing light across the plaster envelope.
- The warm wood tones and honed white marble harmonize with the surrounding plaster, maintaining a cohesive palette of sand, clay, and timber throughout the entire space.
